We are attending the Fox Fest Vocal Jazz Festival March 2-5, 2017.  We will be traveling by train from Denver, Colorado to Creston Iowa.  The festival is held on the campus of Southwestern Community College, in the School for Music Vocations.  Students will perform during the festival, as well as attend performances by other schools, and workshops and clinics.  This is the first time our group will be traveling out of state, and we are very excited to offer this in our 3rd year of existence.  

Students at STRIVE Prep Excel High School are primarily Hispanic/Latino, and 98% qualify for free/reduced lunch.  Our vocal music department represents 34% of the student body, and we will be taking 30 of our juniors and seniors to visit the School of Music Vocations and sing in the festival.  With these funds I will offset the cost of the trip for students and chaperones.  There is currently no budget available for required chaperones for this trip, and I would like avoid having to dip into my materials budget (reserved for music and other purchases), or having to ask our adults to pay to do their job.  Students are currently responsible for the entire cost of their portion for this trip, which is approximately $200 per student.  Chaperones are also estimated to be $200 each, and we are taking the required number of 4 chaperones.  

With these funds, I will pay the fees for chaperones, which means we will still have monies in our budget to purchase materials for the rest of the year (including sheet music, instruments, sound equipment, etc).  If we are able to raise any extra funds beyond our goal, this will offset the cost of the trip for students.  It is very important that our students are able to participate in events, as well as still have budget for basic materials for a choral music classroom.  Our families do not have extra resources to help subsidize funds, and I do not want students to miss out on these amazing opportunities because of money.
