The Description

With these funds I will use it to pay for the overall trip cost to Washington D.C. and Williamsburg, VA to help students lower their financial commitment to the program.

I have parents and students who are going out on a limb, knowing that they will be dipping into their savings, monthly reserves, and making huge sacrifices for the sake of sending their child to experience an educational and life changing journey to Washington D.C. and Williamsburg VA.

Parents have voiced their concerns about being able to raise the money, but are still committed to the possibility that their child will be able to experience history first hand, so they look for opportunities whether it means having their child work to pay off the cost, fundraising by selling goods, and/or reaching out to family, friends and the community for financial support.

PledgeCents is the opportunity that families need, so they can make a dream come true for their children. Every one of my students deserves to go on this amazing trip, but unfortunately some might not be able to raise enough money to cover all of their costs regardless of their efforts.  PledgeCents is one way I can put the need out into the community by stressing that families want this opportunity for their children to the point that they are willing to make sacrifices, but are still concerned that they will not be able to meet the trips cost. This money from PledgeCents will directly impact whether or not a family will be able to afford to send their child on an educational and adventurous trip to Washington D.C.

This is an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in history and make an impact in the classroom by sharing with their classmates back home the history they experienced on many levels.  Students will be exposed to storytelling in Williamsburg, VA, a guided tour of Jamestown Settlement, visiting Alexandria, Mount Vernon, Holocaust Museum, World War II Memorial, Washington Monument, FDR, Jefferson, and MLK Memorials, visiting Arlington National Cemetery, Iwo Jima Memorial, Capitol Hill Tour Lincoln, Korean War and Vietnam Veterans Memorial, White House, Ford's Theatre and Smithsonian Institution.  In addition, students will be able to receive high school credit for this trip.

WASHINGTON, D.C ENHANCES MY CURRICULUM

"The WorldStridesDiscoverNow! Washington, D.C., program is an exciting journey that engages students in the history of our nation and the foundation of our government. Students become active participants in this learning adventure.

The most important component of this field study experience is student involvement. Whether honoring our heroes at Arlington National Cemetery, investigating the three branches of government at the Capitol, the White House, and the Supreme Court, or identifying the effects of decisions made by our nation’s leaders at the many memorials in Washington, D.C., the focus is on student participation, reflection, and internalization."

I have a total of 15 students enrolled for the program and 5 students in the process of registering for the trip for a total of 20.  The cost per student is $2,011.  The cost includes round-tip transportation, sightseeing transportation, course leader, quality hotel accomodations, night chaperones in hotel, accident/health insurance, field journals, online educational resources, all meals, all admissions fees, evening activities, and 24-hour emergency support.

This is an opportunity of a lifetime, with an incredible itinerary that will keep students engaged, enthralled, and educated; I know why parents are committed, I know why I am committed, please help us to make this happen for those students who are so excited to be a part of a one-of-a-kind experience............Washington D.C. or Bust!

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will still put the money raised towards student's trip cost to help lower the overall price.  Parents will welcome any amount to help them in their efforts to make this trip accessible to their students.
