THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Dear Friends of Ms. White's 6th, 7th and 8th grade science classes,

Thank you so much for your generosity, and for contributing to a fun and fascinating year in the science lab!  My students wish to express their appreciation and gratitude to you all.  As the year progresses, I will be posting more pictures from our classroom.  In the meantime, you can follow my school on Instagram at ps_is377brooklyn.  See you there, and thank you once more!

Warm regards,

Ms. White and her students  <3

Thank you for your donations!

Happy Rosh Hashana to those who celebrate!  My class and I are so appreciative of everyone's generosity, and shared desire to make this school year one of project-based, hands-on learning in our classroom!

With just 3 days left until the end of our fundraiser, we need only $155 more to reach our goal.  We are in full swing this school year, and my students are very hopeful that we will achieve our goal, so I can order their supplies and we can start doing some experiments!

Please remember to share this fundraiser with your contacts, and post it on your social media accounts.

With administrative permission, I've created an official Instagram for our school, which you can follow at @ps_is377brooklyn, so I'll see you there!  See what we're doing in Bushwick!

Warmest regards,

Ms. White and her students

Great news!

September 12, 2016

Friends!

Thank you for your support, and encouragement!  I am so pleased that we are rockin' our fundraising needs for this year!

A kind veteran teacher from West Virginia saw our post, and has generously donated the projection microscope!  So, I will be replacing it - and slightly increasing our fundraising goal thereby - with lab group stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs for our circulation unit!  Isn't that great news?

There's a clever plan I think you will find interesting regarding our petri dishes and agar (that's the gel that you pour into the petri dishes).  When we get to single-celled organisms, my plan is to make is real by having each student swipe the agar with their own fingers, and observe what grows.  And trust me, we'll get some pretty funky cultures!  Next, we'll make slides, and observe them under our microscopes!  Now, we won't embarrass anyone by identifying what exactly we are looking at.  But, my point will be made about single-celled organisms (as well as the importance of washing our hands as often as is practical!)

These kids have such a need, and most of them already come from the highest poverty areas.  The pressures of poverty pose enough of a challenge to learning and focus, without adding the pressures of strife at home, hunger, lack of clothing, etc.  So it's my mission to create a fun and engaging learning environment while they are in my care, and give them a bit of life coaching and direction as well.

Because we can start using these resources as soon as we are funded, I request that you donate sooner than later.  The next 10 donors will receive a photo of my students in our classroom!

So, I thank you again for your support.  Please continue to share our fundraiser among your network!  Thanks for helping me help my kids find their way to a fulfilling future.

Warm regards,

Ms. White
