The Description

With these funds I will begin to purchase the supplies, incentives, and resources needed to truly transform culture at Jose de Diego Middle School. In a school where 99% of students are of color, over 80% are eligible for free or reduced lunch, and many of our students are first generation immigrants, many of the resources to promote student success originate in the school building.

This money will directly impact our students by funding rewards students earn through their school wide expectation points, which are directly tied to our schools new roadmap to success, #FUELyourDRIVE. FUEL (Find your Dreams, Be Unyielding, Empower Others, Leave a Legacy) and DRIVE (Dedication to Success, Respect others, Illustrate Leadership, Voice your Needs, and Engage) represent 9 core values and actions we believe students need to take to attain long term success. In creating our incentive system we allow our students to see both the immediate success of particular positive behaviors, while also allowing students to practice these positive  behaviors early on.

Supplies and Incentives:

Jose de Diego Customized 'DRIVE' Wristbands: $87.20 for 280 wristbands ($0.31/Wristband)

Jose de Diego Customized Jaguar Stickers: $59.00 for 200 Stickers ($.30/Sticker)

Folders: $28 4 Boxes of 24 folders  ($7/Box)

Notebooks: $27 3 Boxes of Mead Notebooks ($9/Box)

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase the amount of supplies possible given the funds that I do raise.

About the Creator

Born and raised in New York City, I grew up with a mother who had me at 19 years old. Despite having to raise a young child, my mother continued to pursue a college education, and eventually went on to provide the gift of education others. Growing up with a role model who started an alternative high school for at risk students, education was always a very important endeavor for me. After graduating from Yale University, I joined Teach for America Miami-Dade where I taught U.S. History at Miami Central. Discontent with my limited scope in the classroom, I am now the Dean of Culture at Jose de Diego Middle School - a school currently undergoing a massive transformation under new leadership. It is with great honor and humility that I embark upon this journey to help rethink culture, classroom management, and discipline in a school that has a reputation that doesn't truly represent the potential of its students.
