The Description

If you didn't already know, I'm SUPER excited to be teaching 4th grade in a bilingual elementary school this year in KC. Since Carver Dual Language School is a bilingual public school, my 4th grade position looks a little different than a traditional one.

Instead of having the same 25 students all day, I will have all 65 4th graders every single day. :) My schedule is similar to that of a middle school teacher's because I have 3 periods a day. All of the 4th graders will rotate to receive instruction in all subjects (some in Spanish and some in English) every day!

I'll be teaching them science, social studies, and writing. My students will go to a separate class for reading and a separate class for math. I'll teach social studies and writing in English, then switch to a science unit entirely in Spanish. I'm terrified but also overwhelmingly excited!

That being said, I now have a lot of materials I need to purchase and prepare over the next 3 weeks to ensure that all of my 4th graders can learn in the way that is best for them.

With these funds, I will purchase much-needed supplies that my students and their families may not be able to purchase for themselves and my school does not provide funds for, such as:

  • Pencils and writing utensils
  • Notebooks for interactive science notebooks
  • Science experiment kits for hands-on learning in our classroom

Additionally, I truly believe that not all students learn best in a desk! With these funds, I also hope to purchase flexible and alternative seating for our classroom, such as:

- Bean bag chairs

- Stools

- Yoga/stability balls

- Seat cushions

Back Up Plan

If we don't meet our goal, I will slowly be able to purchase these things myself as my paychecks finally begin coming in throughout the year! But any little bit helps. Thank you for joining me in this fight for educational equity and loving on my future students in this way! :)

Thank you SO MUCH to those of you who donated to my cause! Your generosity helped me win an additional $300 towards my classroom. Thank you doesn't even begin to cover it.

Morgan, before coming to work at Lemont High School, I taught 4th grade for 19 years. I loved that age and even found their jokes funny! You have chosen a noble profession. I wish you courage and great success. Never doubt your work has meaning and purpose

Morgan - so proud of you. Those kids are lucky to have you in their lives. The days will be the most exhausting and yet rewarding.
