The Description

My experiences mentoring and tutoring students in low-income communities as well as interning for an education policy nonprofit in Washington, D.C. led me to make a difference through teaching. When considering post-grad plans, I found Teach For America, an organization dedicated to ending educational inequity, and decided to join the cause. In September, I was accepted to join the Kansas City, Missouri Corps team, teaching high school math. In a few short weeks, I will be responsible for my very own classroom. I will be teaching 9th grade Algebra at East High School in Kansas City, MO. I can't wait to set up my classroom and meet my students and their families!

While every child deserves a high quality education, but within our public education system, this is not always the case. One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. It is much more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome students to a classroom and provide materials they would not have access to otherwise.

Every donation will have a lasting impact on my first group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will help get us off on the right track and remind each and every child of their enormous potential.

I am thrilled to start this exciting journey to fight education inequality and better the lives of students. Your support means so much, not only to me, but to the children and families in KC you will be impacting.

Thank you!

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will collaborate with my school district and community partners in order to ensure my students have what they need to successfully participate in class activities. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.
