The Description

For the past four years, Soccer Club at Rise Kohyang Middle School has provided opportunities for students to have fun, relieve stress, exercise, and build positive relationships with students and staff. Unlike other schools, our campus does not have an outdoor play area for sports, so a field in a nearby park had to be rented. This year, unfortunately, funds for extracurricular activities have run low and, therefore, Soccer Club has been told it can't continue for the year.

We are attempting to meet the goal of $800 in order to continue Soccer Club. The funds will be used to pay for the cost of renting a soccer field so that the students of Rise Kohyang Middle School can participate in this after school activity. Our hope is to fundraise enough to provide students with an opportunity to play in Soccer Club at least once a week for the rest of the academic year. We thank you in advance for providing our students an opportunity to enjoy the sport they love.

About Rise Kohyang Middle School:

Rise Kohyang Middle School is a Title I choice school that operates in the community of Koreatown, Los Angeles. Many students make the choice to attend our school over other community schools because of the academic rigor and high test scores. By supporting sports programs like Soccer Club, students will not only have the competitive edge of academics, but also valuable skills that come with team sports: teamwork, communication, decision making, and creativity to produce the success that lies ahead.

Student Testimonial:

  • “Soccer Club at RKMS is truly important because many students have a strong passion for the sport. Although school is extremely important, many students want to have the opportunity to be a part of a team and a sport they are passionate about. Being part of a team helps students build character in teamwork, effort, and determination. Soccer Club has been one of the best experiences in my life and I believe every student should have the opportunity to experience it.”
    -Diana

  • “If it weren’t for RKMS, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I absolutely mean that with all emotional feeling. It kept me out of bad pressure, bad influences, bad thoughts, and even bad choices. This is saddening to discuss. I wish the young ones had the same experience as I did. Soccer, or any sport in general, is more than just a sport. It’s more than just kicking a ball from place to place. It’s more than just a scold from a coach for you to WORK harder. It’s a discipline a young kid needs. It’s a childhood. From all the memories that are to yet be created, this is one of them. If I were a billionaire, I would give back in a heartbeat. I’d do anything I could to see a younger me have smiles on the field.”
    -Armando

  • “Soccer club has made me a better person. It made me be able to communicate better with my peers, make better friends, and be an active and healthy person. It also made me connect with my teachers more through the student vs staff games. I wouldn't have this good of a relationship with my teachers and peers if it wasn't for soccer. If the soccer club were to not exist it would disappoint a lot of students who really enjoy playing it. From my experience, I was changed a lot because of soccer because it made me curious and wanting to try everything I was passionate in. With it gone I feel as though some people would not be able to be as happy as they would have been if there was soccer.”
    -Rachell

  • “It made me look forward to something afterschool on the days we had it because we usually just stayed inside afterschool. I remember just playing for fun and not really being competitive about it which made me like the environment. If it ceased to exist, RKMS wouldn't be the same since a cultural aspect of middle school which was built over the years would be taken away in the blink of an eye.”
    -Danny

  • “There were many benefits in participating in Soccer Club. One was being able to go outside since we are indoors all day and our school was on the second floor. Another was just being able to play soccer with friends and teachers. As a student you get to have that experience of playing a sport in middle school.”
    -Darren

  • “As a soccer player, it helped me improve as well as become a better athlete (as we ran back and forth through the field).  As a student, it helped me release stress I had from projects, tests, and assignments and it took my mind off of it.”
    -Jessica

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal, we will use whatever funds that are raised to rent out the field as many days as possible ($25/day).
