The Description
With these funds, I will purchase new books to setup a classroom library with the intent of improving literacy rates. As the majority of my students are multiple years behind in terms of reading proficiency, it is imperative that my students have many opportunities for reading. Thus, one of my big goals for the school year is accomplishing the 1 million words challenge, all of my students will have read 1 million words by the end of the year. To accomplish this ambitious goal, all of my students must have access to books that they read outside of class. My classroom library would make a collection of books readily accessible to my students, especially those that do not have access to a public library. I have chosen a balanced selection of text that will pique their interest in reading and equally expand their critical thinking abilities. They will be required to read their texts during independent reading time in class. Furthermore, each week they will have home learning activities that align with the standard being taught for that week.

Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase used copies of the books with whatever funds that are raised (from Amazon.com and other used book retailers). While it would be preferable to provide my students with new copies of books, the primary objective of this cause is to transfers books of quality into the hands and minds of my students.
