The Description

Education has not caught up to our generation Z kids.  For thousands of years, there have generally only been two sources of knowledge in the classroom: 1.) the teacher; and 2.) the text book. The most influential tool in the classroom is the Internet, and yet many schools in the Philadelphia School District are still living in the stone ages.  So many things are electronic these days, and lets face it, less paper means a healthier environment.  With out-of-date text books, a classroom without air-conditioning (yes, I do NOT have air conditioning), and students who never seem to have pencils, or paper, it is hard to engage students in learning and hold their focus.  Our students are set up to fail.  Teachers need to use out-of-the-box thinking and come up with creative ways to educate our youth.  This can be done by making classrooms much more student-centered than ever before.  We, as facilitators, can broach broad and meaningful questions based around the units we teach, but our students can do the research, seek out the answer, and teach themselves the materialEspecially in subjects like Science and Social Studies, students really benefit from hands on activities and interactive learning.  Please help me raise money to buy a Bretford Mobility Car 30 for MacBooks. (http://www.apple.com/shop/product/TX323LL/A/bretford-mobility-cart-30-for-macbook-and-ipad). With these MacBooks, I will be able to prepare my students for success by teaching them key skills, like how to use Microsoft Excel, Word, and create PowerPoint presentations.  They will also be able to learn valuable typing skills, how to research information, and create their own resumes.  Because of the demographic I teach, many of my students do not have access to computers or the opportunities to learn as we have.  These MacBooks will help replace the lectured style of teaching and enhance student based learning. Our school uses Google Drive, which saves student work automatically.  They will be able to submit homework and projects via Google Drive as well as communicate with me more conveniently in case they may have questions or need help. Please donate and help support my cause to buy MacBooks for my students.
