With these funds I will buy 4 solar panel cookers at $88.99/each for our kids.  Many of our students come from low-income families in which they can barely afford simple things such as electricity.  Not only can they barely afford simple things we take for granted, they are unaware of ways in which they can conserve energy and help out their community.  In my class students are asked to create an "Energy Conservation Plan for their community, school, or home. Before they complete their ECP, they are to research advantages and disadvantages to the types of energy we currently use. Their ECP must include the current source of energy they use and replace it with an alternative form of enerfy.  Solar panels are such a foreign concept that most students have no idea what they look like and the various ways in which solar panels can be used.   

With these funds I would love to throw my kids an "Alternative Energy Sources Party" in which they will use solar panel cookers to cook hot dogs, burgers, and veggie patties.  Not only will we use them to cook food, we will also use them to make popcorn.  I want my kids perspective on energy to expand beyond our natural sources of energy and become critical thinkers on how they can be catalysts to spark an alternative sources of energy campaign before our natural energy sources are depleated.
