The Description
With these funds I will purchase phonics and reading materials from Lakeshore Learning Company. Roll a Word Dice Tub ($29.99) will serve as an excellent small group instructional tool that I can use with my students. During small group or individual phonics practice the students will enjoy the opportunity to roll the dice, enunciate the sounds, and construct words! This dice tub will enhance learning for my tactile and verbal learners, while increasing their fluency with vowel sounds, blends, etc. http://www.lakeshorelearning.com/product/productDet.jsp?productItemID=1%2C689%2C949%2C371%2C928%2C170&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181113&bmUID=1444690803514
My second graders would also benefit from Fluency Skills Listening Centers. This interactive and comprehensive kit is available from Lakeshore Learning Company for the affordable price of $95. I am always searching, developing, and integrating quality reading, writing, and listening activities available during my students' center time. This listening center is packed with a variety of activities for the reader to practice intonation, reading fluency, comprehension, and reading stamina. http://www.lakeshorelearning.com/product/productDet.jsp?productItemID=1%2C689%2C949%2C371%2C929%2C031&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181113&bmUID=1444691719287
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will purchase the Roll a word Dice Tub first. It is the least expensive desired item of mine. Then I will entertain the idea of developing and implementing a classroom Read-a-Thon. Perhaps each student can secure monetary pledges from their investors (friends and families) related to an amount of independent reading time completed in our classroom. To make this event more enticing, I will consider inviting various guest readers (retired teachers from our building, a cafeteria cook, the iconic cow from Chic-fil-A, etc.) to join our class and read their favorite children's book a loud. The monetary funds generated from this Read-a-Thon can be invested into the requested "Fluency Skills Listening Center."
