The Description
With these funds I will purchase 4 laptops ($500 each), a tablet ($500), a projector ($300), and a printer ($200) to enable the LiveS.T.R.E.A.M. team to participate in the 2015 UPENN/ First Lego League Trash Trek & Jr. FLL Waste Wise tournaments to experience science as interactive fun & not just abstract vocab.
Our Project: The UPENN First Lego League (FLL) Robotics competition proves to be a terrific partner in this pursuit as its mission is to help children, ages 9 to 14 & Jr FLL for children ages 6 to 9, discover the fun in science & technology while building self-confidence, knowledge and life skills. Our STEM club is placing two 10 person teams in the upcoming FLL Trash Trek & Jr. FLL Waste Wise competition that focuses on teaching core values, robot design & project presentation based on a real world problem.
Gracious professionalism is the key. "It's a mode of operation encouraging high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community."
Kids have fun as scientists & engineers. During FLL & Jr. FLL tournaments, teams build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game. They will also choose and solve a real-world question in the Project. Throughout their experience, students take on leadership roles & do the work required themselves while guided by coaches & mentors.
Our long-term goals are to:
1) Offer relevant teaching as project based, collaborative learning
2) Model core values & demonstrate impact that active learning has for our students
3) Adapt STEM activities to the school environment & a student centered approach
4) Plant Seeds of a professional mindset
5) Train students for leadership roles & college prep atmosphere
6) Expose, Engage, & Immerse Latino & African American children in the engineering design process
For more info see the LiveS.T.R.E.A.M. presentation.
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will purchase every affordable item towards helping meet our goals.
About the Creator

My predominantly Black & Latino students are rich in personality, talent, humor, storytelling, & overall creative ability. What they lack has been exposure to "hands-on, minds-on", interactive learning in STEM classrooms.
