All monies raised will go directly to fund all expenses for the class for the 2016-2017 school year. I am a first year teacher starting fresh with very limited resources and need help to optimize learning for my students. We need funding for supplies such as printer paper, pencils, pens, erasers, markers, crayons, dry erase markers, dry erase erasers, folders, notebooks, chart paper, poster paper, ect. We also need books, for textual reference and support, reinforcement for learning, guided practice, flash cards, journals, articles, and interactive readers. As today's generation of learners are highly sophisticated, children of our future learn well with technology, we need funding for technological equipment, items such as a projector, speakers, headphones, and devices to connect to software such as"Kahoot” (a free game-based learning platform that makes learning fun for any subject, in any language, on any device, for all ages), "Quizizz” (allows you to conduct student-paced formative assessments in a fun and engaging way for students of all ages), and "GoNoodle" (an interactive game used for students to become their strongest, smartest, bravest, best selves), to name a few. We also need funding to replace our chalk board with a white board, and small student white boards for their desks.
The room I’m inheriting is currently a storage room and needs many things to make the room student friendly and learning centered. To optimize learning, we will need to create centers for learning such as a reading center, library, social studies social scene, writer’s café, and many other ideas I wish to bring to life for the kids. To bring this vision to life we will need chairs, pillows, carpets/ rugs, lamps, storage containers, decorations, and of course resources for the centers (books for the library, maps for the social center, and things of such).
We are an English Language Arts and Social Studies Class so I anticipate taking field trips, which will require funding for transportation, admission to museums and attractions, and food if not provided by the school.
Lastly, I believe in positive reinforcement for learning and exemplar behavior so a rewards bin is also needed. In it I would like to have a vast variety of options for student rewards such as school supplies, learning resources, and edible treats.

Why do your students in particular deserve these resources/this experience?
No disrespect to any other kids worldwide, but… mine are THE BEST! From their charm to their wit, from their intellect to their personalities my kids are hands down the best life has to offer. I do not wish to stand on a soap box and ask for sympathy for my children, however their stories are relevant. My children are from the heart of Baltimore Maryland, also known as charm city, but sometimes life here may not be as charming to those unconditioned to the environment. The city is full of potential and adversity, and depending on your vision of the glass, you may decide to say it is half full combating with riots, police sirens, young men dying at the hands of officials elected to protect and serve, still my kids show up and give it their all. Some of them are from single parent homes, with low incomes, few resources, and many opportunities to adhere to societal statistics, however my children still decide to show up and perform, and for that they deserve the best education that life could offer. In my opinion, the beast of the land (guns, drugs, murders, deaths, violence, and unclean money) can be viewed as a blessing, this heavy burden for most conditions the people of the land to become survivors, in the process some give into the beast and yield their existence to conform, but others, like my kids, become numb, numb to hardship; they eat breath and sleep resilience, they fight for survival and don’t stop there, after they survive they fight for success, using their scabs and scars as shields from the next blade of adversity they face, my kids are the best and deserve the best. Though I’ve yet to meet all of my students, I know each and every one of their names, and it is success! And by the way, they aren’t just my children, as the future is ours, so are they, they are our children!
