The Description
With your help, I will purchase several collections of board books, paperback books and big books that would fill our classroom library. These book collections will be purchased from Lakeshore, which is a company that specializes in earlychildhood learning materials. From their 2014 catolog, in the Children's Books section beginning on page 152, we would love to purchase the Classic Board Book Collection (63.50), Multicultural Board Book Collection (59.50), Favorite Songs & Rhymes Board Book Collection (54.50), Dealing With Feelings Board Book Collection (55.50), Best Behavior Board Book Collection (47.50), Community Helpers Board Book Collection (52.50), Paperback Classic Library (99.50), Predictable Text Paperback Library(99.50), Multicultural Stories Paperback Library (96.50), Classroom Favorites Big Books Set 1 (129.00), Classroom Favorites Big Books Set 2 (125.00), Classroom Favorites Big Books Set 3 (129.00) and finally the Nursery Rhymes Big Book Set.
All too often, we hear older students complain that they dislike reading. We know how important it is to foster a love of reading early on. When students are forced to read higher level text in the upper grades, if they have not first explored, listened to and practiced reading stories in picturebooks they become far less likely to have the confidence to attempt to decode unfamiliar words and they struggle to read smoothly with fluency. By exposing children to a great variety of stories with rich language and inviting illustrations, we are opening up a world to our students that theymay have a hard time discovering if it weren't for wonderful classroom, school and public libraries.
Back Up Plan
If we don't reach our entire goal we will will use our funds to first supply our classroom library with as many big books and board books that we can purchase.
