The Description

With these funds we will...

give 3 fifth grade classes a real life, hands on experience of the Revolutionary War. The birth of our nation is an abstract concept for them. One student asked if George Washington was still alive. Another student wondered why people would give up their lives for freedom. They were surprised that the colonists did not have running water.

Revolutionary Days on the Hill, Tulsa is an exciting and memorable day of educational activities aimed at celebrating our nation's rich history. It brings to life the American Revolution through dressing up in colonial garments, interacting with people acting as historical characters, and experiencing a different time period first hand. Having students participate in this reenactment will help solidify their learning and understanding of what we are studying in Social Studies. Our students lack access to the resources that are provided to students from a higher income household. They do not often travel outside of their community and have trouble understanding what is taught because their knowledge is limited to their own personal experiences.

A Big Thank You!

March 30, 2016

With YOUR help, my class traveled back in time to Colonial America! It brought the American Revolution to life through dressing up in colonial garments, interacting with people acting as historical characters, and experiencing a different time period first hand. The students were most excited to meet Dr. Craik, George Washington's personal physician, who told stories about bullet wounds and amputations. We also met Benjamin Franklin and James Madison. This experience helped solidify their learning and understanding of what we are studying in Social Studies. Here are some pictures:

A little silliness before we leave

We even made it on the cover of Tulsa World!
