Bringing Interactive Lessons to the Classroom

$170 goal
The Description
With these funds I will invite the outreach program from Camden Children's Garden to come to the first grade at my school and involve our students in an engaging interactive science lesson for our first graders. They offer a lesson called "Feathered Friends" In this lesson students will discover different types of birds and learn how to identify where birds live, and what they eat based on physical characteristics. The students will handle replica bird beaks, practice feeding like a hummingbird, and make their very own bird feeder to take home. The lesson will conclude with a story about birds. Each lesson is aligned to common core science standards.
We have limited science materials at our school so this is a great opportunity to allow the students to be involved in a hands on science lesson with materials we don't have access to in school. We also have difficulty getting the funds to take field trips. This is a way to bring field trips to the classroom for 1/2 the price.
The $170 provides two hands on science lessons for each of our first grade classes. Each lesson is $85 dollars for a group of 30 students. This covers the materials, travel fees and a teacher from Camden Children's Garden.

Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will purchase the outreach program for just my first grade classroom. The total cost being $85 for 1 class of 30 students.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated! The children will be so excited to have the visitors come for the lesson. The Camden Children's Garden is closed until Spring but I look forward to booking this great lesson when it is nicer weather. I will post pictures of our lesson when they come!
About the Creator
I have an amazing group of students. They come from all walks of life and make up a very diverse classroom. I teach a self-contained first grade class with English as a Second Language and Special Education children. They are enthusiastic and eager to learn, but suffer from our lack of materials. Many of the children come to school without the necessary school supplies to have a successful year.
Young students need a strong start in school starting in Kindergarten with the appropriate supplies they can have that jump start to be successful in school the rest of their lives. In city public schools teachers are often buying classroom necessities such as paper towel, toilet paper, soap, and hand sanitizer. This leaves little in the teachers’ budget to buy other essentials such as folders, notebooks, and pencils. Please help me give each student starting school in my classroom the same opportunity to excel in school.
