Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

After completing Teach for America’s - 2018 Tulsa Institute I will be responsible for my very own classroom! I can't wait to decorate and meet my students and their families. One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. It makes it infinitely more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome my students to a classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework. Thank you so much in advance for supporting me and my students at the beginning of this exciting journey.

Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my first group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide for the students of my very first classroom:

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

Fundraiser Updates (2)

Stretch Goal!

July 3, 2018

I want to start by saying a HUGE thank you to every single person who has donated to my classroom in the fall. I cannot wait to fill my classroom with supplies for my students.

At this point, you all have helped me reach my original goal, which will help ensure the basic supplies are purchased.

But there are still 26 days left for the fundraiser!!

As another quick update, I will be teaching 6th grade English at a STEM school next year, and I am hoping to in addition to the basic supplies, start a small writing program with my students. To do this, I will need writing journals!

For journals, a pack of 12 on Amazon are $20, and I will have four class periods of about 30 kids each. I need to buy 10 sets of these 12 to give me 120 journals, which is about $200 in total.

Because of this cost, I am creating a stretch goal for my fundraiser! My new goal is $800 so I can buy these journals and ensure my students are able to express themselves and engage in creative writing during their school day.

Any extra money I raise will be going towards my in class library so please help me spread the word! Thank you to everyone who has already shared my fundraiser. I would appreciate any extra shares or posted updates on my behalf! I took myself off social media while at training so I am not able to share it myself.

Thank you in advance for all the additional help!!!

Sophia

Where I will be in August!

June 25, 2018

Hello all!

In addition to the information provided above, I wanted to give everyone a quick update of where I will be for the next two years starting in August. I will be moving to Pueblo, Colorado!!

Pueblo is a small city two hours south of Denver. I have only visited for a day but I am already in love. There is a river running through the main part of the city, and I have never been somewhere SO sunny!

I have a lot of nerves about this move but I am also confident I am taking the best next step for my life. Living in Providence for the past four years was incredible, and I am looking forward to making Pueblo my new home!

If you would like to know more about Pueblo, check out this link out: https://livability.com/co/pueblo/real-estate/8-reasons-to-move-to-pueblo-co

I never imagined I would become a teacher but for the next two years, I get to learn more about what it means to be in a classroom. I have a few ideas of what will come after so stay tuned!

It would mean the world to me if you could donate to help make my first classroom welcoming and warm. While I know this looks like a fundraiser for me, I want to emphasize that this is a fundraiser for my students. I don't know my students yet but I know they will be wonderful, and I know they deserve the best classroom I can give them. Any and all help will be appreciated.

Thank you in advance to everyone who is able to donate!

Xo,

Sophie

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my first year with Teach for America.
