Transform Education Through Technology #Get2ISTE

The Description

With these funds I will be able to attend the ISTE 2015 conference. I have found that teaching technology is essential; especially for populations with lower socio-economic status. I am passionate about not just teaching keyboarding skills, but rather; teaching students how to be mathematical problems solvers, critical thinkers, and socially responsible through and with the help of technology. The students of Clark County School District deserve an advocate for this type of education. I believe that one of the best ways to improve my teaching skill set is to attend trainings, conferences, speak with peers, and read research articles/books. This is why I am fundraising for the opportunity to attend the ISTE (International Society in Technology Education) 2015 conference in Philadelphia from Sunday, June 28, through Wednesday, July 1.

ISTE 2015 is hosted by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and is globally recognized as the most comprehensive educational technology conference in the world. The event offers myriad professional learning opportunities for all types of educators and education leaders, including teachers of every discipline, tech coordinators, administrators, superintendents, teacher educators and media specialists.

With funding, I will be able to purchase: a round trip ticket at $800, 3 nights hotel stay at Wyndham ho436tel at $145/night including taxes and fees ($436 total), and registration for the conference at $464 (includes 1 year membership to International Society for Technology in Education). The total cost would be $1700 to attend 3 days of the conference.

I am confident that I will bring back a great deal of valuable information from ISTE 2015. I look forward to sharing the knowledge I gain with my peers so we can work together to create engaging learning experiences that will help our students truly succeed in the digital age.

About the Creator

I having been teaching grades K-5 for 7 years in Clark County School District in Las Vegas. Currently, I teach technology to grades Kindergarten through fifth grade at an Elementary in Henderson, NV (right outside of Las Vegas). This will be my 3rd year as head coach of Agassi Prep's High School Cross-Country team (I was the first coach for Agassi Prep Cross-Country), 2nd year as the middle school head cross-country, and 3rd year as assistant coach for the Agassi Prep High School Track and Field Team. I am a huge advocate for youth athletics. Through athletics, students learn valuable life skills; such as, perseverance, teamwork, courage, goal setting, discipline, work ethic, and resilience. Athletics is a tool help youth learn skills that they will apply not only in the classroom, but in everything they do in life. I believe that more money needs to be spent on education. As Derek Bok said, "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance." My hobbies include: playing with my two dogs and drawing, painting, and crafting. I am extremely passionate about teaching and mentoring children and young adults.
