Technology Connections

The Description
Every year I love to challenge my kids and push them further to become awesome scientists. This year I am trying the flipped classroom model, that is to say that I am having my students learn the basics at home via technology. This frees up our class time for amazing labs and higher level activities. Our district has lacked the funding for technology in every classroom (we only have a teacher computer and projector in each room). I am wanting to purchase 2 HP stream laptops ($185 each) with 2-year warranty ($42.00 per laptop) to pursue our annual technology requirements in the science classroom.
My students would greatly benefit from having laptops in the classroom because the technology is now there to drive the learning. By flipping my classroom, the students would watch a 5-7 minute video at home and answer basic questions via google classrooms and Schoology. The next day, we put the laptops in their hands with a higher order thinking problem. The students would then do the problem solving on their own with the teacher as the facilitator. The students would then be driving their own learning through the use of technology and lab equipment. This is the wave of the future, and I want to better prepare my students for the world of tomorrow.
The donation of laptops and technology allows teachers to bring a higher level of learning to the classroom. It would teach my students to be innovators, problem solvers, and stronger leaders in the work place of tomorrow.
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal...I will use the funds to help get classroom lab supplies such as 1 computer, microscope slides or journals, and color pencils for those students who can not afford their school supplies this school year.
