The Description
- How will this money directly impact us, our students, and our classroom? These funds will directly impact us by supporting our fund raising goal, which will allow to participate in this historic event. This event will also expand the learning environment as our students engage and participate in STEM programming on a national level.
- Why do your students in particular deserve these resources/this experience? Our students represent the next level of STEM experience. They demonstrated excellence at almost every local event that we have attended. Being able to participate in this national event will give them a fresh new look as STEM careers and how those choices can be used to impact the communities they live in.
Harambee watoto are hopping aboard Estella’s Brilliant Bus!
At Harambee, we are preparing our young people to compete in a global economy. So while some students may be sleeping in or watching cartoons on Saturday morning, the watoto in the STEMNASIUM LEARNING Academy are busy doing hands on projects, involving science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
As such, we are excited to have these engaged young people take part in the historical, ‘Road to #YesWeCode,’ hosted by Estella’s Brilliant Bus – an organization working to provide educational training that will empower children and families in under-served areas with life-long learning and access to technology.
Kicking off Friday, June 26, 2015, this road trip brings together 100 students on buses from across the U.S. to meet with hundreds of other local students at each stop on a historic multi-city tour. The trip features stops at local cultural heritage landmarks and locations that include hands--on technology learning activities. ‘Road to #YesWeCode’ merges computer programming with on-the-go entrepreneurship training, offering three exciting programs: Basic Coding Workshops, Mobile App Build, and the Basics of Tech Entrepreneurship. The final destination is participation in the #YesWeCode Hackathon and Technology Village held at Essence Festival in New Orleans, over the 4th of July weekend.
Sound exciting, right? We need your support to get our kids there!
We must raise $10,000 over the next 5 weeks. With your donation, our young people will get to increase their STEM knowledge while also learning via experience as they connect with young people from across the U.S. Please help get our watoto on the ‘Road to #YesWeCode’!
Back Up Plan
If we do not meet our goal we will donate whatever funds we raised to another student cause and support them in achieving their goal of attending this historic CODING event.
