help students delve deeper into the books they love.  After reading "Hugo Cabret" and the "Houdini Box", both by Brian Selznick, students will practice stop motion animation and camera tricks.  "Hugo Cabret" describes the life of Georges Melies, a classic filmmaker.  Students will use the items in this grant to help them understand the processes Melies used.  "Houdini Box" is a fiction story based on Harry Houdini.  While Houdini did not use camera tricks, the students will learn how cameras can be used to create effects that look like magic.

My students are hard working individuals.  They deserve to be challenged in fun and educational ways.
