The Description
We are a Title I high school-located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn-that serves a predominantly African-American student population. Like most youth growing up in the inner city, our students are vulnerable to the "zero tolerance policies" and discriminatory discipline that so many schools are quick to adopt for the sake of maintaining order. In an effort to combat the School to Prison pipeline, as well as maintain a positive & supportive school culture, we at the Brooklyn School for Music & Theatre are adopting Restorative Justice Practices to address student conflicts, as well as a Positive Behavior Incentive program to encourage behavioral expectations. All donations will impact our ability to reward students for achieving, or exceeding, behavioral expectations throughout the 2016-2017 school year. The rewards will vary based on student interest, but may include items as simple as: brag tags, school supplies; art supplies; gift cards; books. By supporting our cause, you will not only be contributing to our efforts in building a positive school culture, but you will also be participating in a larger & urgent social justice movement: the dismantling of the School to Prison pipeline that is plaguing our inner city schools.
Back Up Plan
If we do not meet our goal, we will have to severely limit the reward options we can offer to students.
