The Description
With these funds I will purchase a class set (30) of RJ Palacios's Wonder. Wonder is a book about a boy name August Pullman. August is born with many facial anomalies. These anomalies prevent August from experiencing normal things in life, like friendships, school, etc. Until his parents decide to put him into school at Beecher Prep. Throughout the book, RJ Palacios does an exceptional job of narrating August's experiences through school and his life as a new 5th grader.
We want a class set of Wonder because of the many literary elements this book offers, which I teach each and everyday. Wonder gives readers examples of Flashbacks and Foreshadowing, Inference, Drawing Conclusions, Plot, Figurative Language, Character Relationships, and most importantly Theme. My students will be able to effectively use these elements from the story to better understand how these same elements are used in most fictional text.
My students would also benefit from having a class set of Wonder to use for a book study. As well as a Project Based Learning (PBL) foundation. I have a whole unit on Wonder, that incorporates vocabulary, writing, and other differentiated learning activities. A class set would finalize the necessary resources needed to complete our Wonder unit.
My teacher copy of Wonder is not enough, a class set of Wonder would be beneficial in so many ways.
I strongly hope you consider my cause to effectively reach all of my 5th grade students!
Thank you for your consideration,

Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will use whatever is invested as assistance in purchasing the Wonder class set. It is definitely worth the investment in a classroom. However, I trust this process and hope my explanation of how I think Wonder would benefit my 5th Reading class.
