The Description

I am currently a science teacher at the Journey School of Choice in the Turner U.S.D 202 District.  Our school provides an alternate setting that provides primarily online courses for students who are wish to recover credit or graduate early.  We provide the same core subjects opportunities and standards as our traditional high school but I would like to expand on our elective course offerings.  One of these courses will be an Introduction to Engineering class that is built around the Next Generation Science Standards with a focus on a hands on STEM approach.  The course will incorporate design process, project based learning, and investigation of engineering career fields.  I would like to expose our students to the opportunities available to them and the skills needed in order for them to be more college and career ready.

I will be using the funding to purchase a the Tetrix MAX R/C Robotics Kit.  This kit will allow students expand on technological concepts as well as give a higher level of learning to a hands on opportunity for students to use the design process.  The kit consists of the materials and resources to build three different robots that will be able to perform three different tasks.

If I do not meet my goal I will attempt to supplement the additional cost of the kit through any district budget options I have available.

About the Creator

Hello, I am currently in my 22nd year of teaching various science courses that have ranged from 7th-12th grade. I am currently a staff member at Journey School of Choice for the Turner U.S.D. 202 School District in Kansas City, Kansas. Our school ranges from 9th -12th grade and provides primarily online courses for students that are looking to recover credit or attempting to graduate early. The school provides a variety of core courses but I am looking to create more elective opportunities. One of these courses I am designing is an Introduction to Engineering course that will focus on the Next Generation Science Standards using a hands on STEM approach. I am looking to include a robotics module into the course in which the funding will be used to buy the robotics kit.
