St. Augustine Field Trip

The Description
With these funds I will be able to help cut the costs of a field trip to St. Augustine for the 4th graders at my school. Visiting St. Augustine is a common field trip for most 4th grade students around Florida. Unfortunately, students at my school have not been able to attend in the past due to the financial demands. 98% of the students at my school qualify for free-reduced lunch and are living close to the poverty level. This makes it extremely difficult for their families to come up with the extra money to cover a field trip.
St. Augustine is the oldest city in Florida and plays an important role in our history. This field trip would allow my students to experience history in a way they never have before. I want all the 4th graders at my school to be able to see Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry fort in the continental US, discover what school houses were like years ago, and experience what it was like to shop at an old wooden store. I visited St. Augustine in 4th grade and I can honestly say, 18 years later, it is one of my fondest memories of elementary school. I want to share this experience with my students.
Back Up Plan
If we don't reach our entire goal we will still use the money we have earned to help the students in the greatest financial need attend the field trip. My goal is for all students to be able to attend, despite what their financial situation might be at home. Any money raised will go towards helping a student in need.
