Thank you for your interest in our fundraiser! We would like to create a "fun" literacy library which will target many of the needs of our English Learners. Many of my kiddos do not like to read and I have found that much of what they read in class can come off as "boring" for them, mostly because they do not have enough background knowledge to relate to the material or cannot fully understand the language. It is my goal to push literacy in a fun and exciting way to help motivate them to grow socially and academically. We would like to raise enough funds to provide a few new class sets of exciting fiction and non fiction books for our English Language Learners. In addition to the texts, we would like to purchase audio versions of them and a class set of headphones/mic combos.

We know that students who are engaged and invested in the material are more productive, receptive to learning and ultimately more successful. Currently, titles like "Enrique's Journey" captivate our students. Many have relatives or close family friends , if not themselves,  who have experienced something similar. Exposing students to interesting topics that they can relate to can help facilitate and even spark an interest in future independent reading. 

As with anyone who is learning and practicing a new language, hearing it is best! Purchasing the audio version of books allows our English Learners to hear proper pronunciation which will help them socially and academically. 

The books and headsets will also be used for students to practice their oral language skills as we can have them create discussion groups and reading clubs. Students will also be encouraged to practice writing skills in regards to the books we read in class. 

We are excited to have community members like you who value literacy and know that "the more you read the more you'll know, the more you learn the more places you will go"(-Dr. Seuss)!
