The Description
As a Pre-K teacher I have a very unique opportunity. I am one of the first people in a child's life that will help them form their opinion of learning and education. I can make it very boring and routine, which studies have shown that children do not learn by memorizing; or I can make it fun and engaging, which studies have shown that when students interact with what they are learning they can truly retain the information. Along with that challenge, I teach students from many different backgrounds, countries, and languages. Many of the students that I will be receiving are not native English speakers or have not been introduced to appropriate age-level vocabulary on a consistent basis.
As one of the first teachers that these children will meet, it is my job to introduce them to as much language as possible and build those early language skills. By using the Singlish early language acquisition program, children will learn classic children's songs and nursery rhymes and be introduced to vocabulary. This language program includes a print-rich poster to go with each song and a teacher's guide. There are 5 volumes in the Singlish collection and I am asking for 3 of them. The volumes cost $100 each. We will use this program during our literacy block when we introduce new vocabulary, during transition times, and while the children are at learning stations.
I am also asking for funds to purchase the 75 Sing-Along E-Songs set from Scholastic. What's special about this set is that it will help with alphabetic principles, phonics, and word families. These principles are what helps children decode words and ultimately read. These songs can be used and taught during small group and informal instruction. This set costs $60.
Any amount that you are comfortable donating will be a tremendous help as my students and I begin their journey into literacy and education.
Love always,
Ms. Harris
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will purchase the materials out of my own pocket because I believe in these products so much. It's expensive, so every donation that I receive (no matter the amount) will be a great help! I've personally used these products and the kids love them and they really work.
