The Description
Boston is a city of neighborhoods. For many students, this means they have entirely segregated learning experiences for much of their academic lives. At Boston Collegiate Charter School, however, students come together from all 13 neighborhoods of Boston, ranging widely in race and economic status. Every year we send a select, diverse group of students to the Farm School to come together in relationship building, responsibility and leadership.
At $50 per child, you can help sponsor 30 inner-city children on a two-day enrichment program at a local farm. More specifically, the $50 per child will go into paying for lodging, food and transportation to and from Farm School.
At the Farm School, students who have never spoken to one another before, soon become friends. Students who have never left their neighborhood in Boston, fondly experience farm life. Students who have never tried new things, suddenly take risks. This overnight trip does more than just teach students about hard work and sustainable living—it teaches them that despite differences, we all share common emotions, such as trepidation when milking a cow, exhaustion after a long day’s work, and joy when making new friends. At the Farm School students are transformed in invaluable ways, and your contribution will make this experience a reality for all students. Go to www.farmschool.org to learn more about the amazing opportunities that Farm School provides.
