The Description

My students need the ELMO student response system to provide opportunities for active engagement and participation of all students in the classroom.

My Students

"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." - Confucius

Every day, I am committed to engaging my students in active learning. Finding ways to capture a student's attention and to hold on to it can be a challenge. Incorporating the student response clickers is one way to hook them and reel them in.

Each and every one of them share the love for technology and are anxious to use a technology tool any chance that they can get. Our school is very diverse. It is a title I school and the majority of our students come from low-income households. Students always have positive words for using technology and show increased scores on projects and classroom learning when the use of technology is integrated.

Technology is a part of this generations lives on a daily basis. With STEAM-centered instruction and the goal in mind of students being college and career ready, I try to incorporate as much technology into my lessons every day. Using technology, I can motivate students and get them excited to learn.

My Project

Each student will be provided with a wireless interactive clicker to submit their own personal ideas on curriculum topics in Science. The clickers allow the class to be grouped or to interact as a whole group. Responses are immediate. The clickers will allow me to track results, provide instant feedback to students, all while providing students with an engaging and interactive discussion which incorporates visual images, questions, responses, and feedback. The interactive response system can be used for learning a wide variety of topics.

Using the interactive, student response system assures that each student has an opportunity to participate and receive immediate feedback on their learning ideas. This project will help students make learning connections in the classroom.

Having an electronic response system in my classroom will change my students learning because it will give them confidence in their knowledge of science.

When students answer questions correctly they will feel confident that they know the correct answer. Confidence will also come from the less outgoing students having their misconceptions retaught anonymously.

About the Creator

With over 20 years in education it is my mission to empower student to become lifelong learners and instill with them the belief that they can reach any goal he/she sets for his/herself. For years I have worked to improve the lives of children particular those underrepresented in our society, through a variety of public social programs and in the private sector. I recognize that schools in high needs areas (my preference) are places where teachers are faced with a plethora of challenges that range from poverty, violence, cultural diversity and a multitude of languages. Successful teaching in these areas is different from teaching in suburban settings, which have more homogenous student populations, more parental support and more stable student populations. Children who attend high need schools require educators such as myself who are dedicated, respect children and youth, who actually believe they can learn if properly taught ad who understands the type of homes and cultures from which they come. I committed to inspire them, develop and maintain rapport with them, set high expectations of them, and provide my students with a supportive environment which bolsters their confidence.
