Our goal is to purchase the “Mambo” Drone Education Pack which contains 6 “Mambo” drones and their accessories ($100 each). This education drone bundle is not just about flying drones, although the kids will have a blast in the pilot seat. Parrot has teamed up with popular coding software developers Tynker and Swift to give kids the power to program flight paths and actions of the drone.

The ability to program the drones creates a unique opportunity for educators to blend math and computer science in a tangible way. The students will be able to see their programming come to life as they explore the infinite possibilities of drone usage in the real world. Kids learning to code is an important skill, but not all students like sitting behind a computer and watch objects move on the screen. The programmable drones move them from the inside of the classroom to outside where the virtual world meets the real world.

The drones will be primarily used in the Technology classes, but as the kids become more adept with their operation they will move out of the Middle School Technology classes and into every grade level. It is important for students to see what can be accomplished with technology and that computers are more than just game devices and paper writers.
