Bringing Books Home - Developing the Independent Reader

The Description

With these funds I will...

Purchase Independent Reading Books for two classrooms of students.

Books are expensive, community libraries in our school neighborhoods are vacant - we're trying desperately to provide enough books to send home with our kids each night.

Independent reading is a key lever to student achievement. Students who read a significant number of books that are both accessible and personally interesting learn faster and perform better overall.

Mastery Schools are significantly increasing the number of books in classroom libraries, so students have access to a plethora of high-quality diverse and level-appropriate texts to read both at school and at home.

To provide one child with enough books to take home - at their level, interest and with enough variety, it costs approximately $250 per student.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase as many books as possible with the funds we raise.

Every child should have books on their level to read and enjoy. It hurts my heart to see that some children are without this opportunity to explore life through the written word. Here's hoping you receive many more pledges.
