The Description
With these funds I will provide students with access to one, 10 student set Google Expeditions Kit. With this kit, students will use their iPads to travel to places previously unimaginable. By using Virtual Reality Technology, students could, with the push of a button, be swept away to to observe the lowland Gorillas in their natural habitat. They could soar over to the Acropolis as they read about Greek and Roman history. The possibilities are endless. The kit provides 10 student devices, 10 Mattel View-Masters, 1 Sabrent Rapid Charger, 1 Insignia Teacher Device, 1 TP-Link Router, 1 Pelican Case, and Geek Squad White Glove Service from Best Buy. Because I am in a position that allows me to work with roughly 50 teachers, I could impact over 200 students with this amazing technology.
The rationale behind wanting to provide this experience to students and teachers in Charleston County comes from the fact that many of our students don't have access to travel outside of our city or state. By providing these resources, students can gain background knowledge as we ask them to learn about things that are seemingly disconnected to their lives. This kit will not only engage students, but will support them as they emerge as proficient leaders of the 21st Century. These devices will allow students and teachers to communicate, collaborate and think critically about what they are studying, as well as offer an outlet for creativity.
All students deserve a chance to explore the wonderful world we live in. Let's give them this amazing opportunity offered by Google!
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will purchase several Google Cardboards and encourage teachers and students to use their own devices to explore. Many teachers could use their personal devices and have students experience the virtual field trip in a small center. Additional funds may be used to purchase virtual field trip apps that will provide alternate experiences in a small group setting.
