With these funds I will purchase a novel for each student. Our third unit teaches students about the Holocaust, and we will be using the novel "Number the Stars" by Lois Lowry as a text to build our central themes. Most times, students have to borrow a novel from a class set, which prevents students from marking up the text (which we all know is a trait of good readers). I would like each student to have their own personal copy of the novel in order to be able to use multiple reading strategies to get an understanding from the text.
