The Description
Our classroom will be impacted through having access for our students to utilize more technology in the music classroom while learning music theory. Music Learning Community can be used with every music student at KIPP Polaris regardless of ability or knowledge level. It puts a fun and exciting twist on what most have considered a "tough" aspect of learning to read music. All students should feel success and have fun when being a member of the performing arts. The annual license for access to the site is roughly $315.
More information about Music Learning Community can be found at http://musiclearningcommunity.com/about.html
Our population make-up of students includes a multicultural minority mix of young men from under-served areas in the Houston community. Some students travel very far distances just to attend our school because their parents believe in our mission that we will prepare them to "be equipped with the academic skills, social competencies, and character traits necessary to navigate life challenges, attend and complete the college of their choice, and return to become the leaders of their community." We live this mission through all facets of the school, including the music department. Music is something that our school leader championed for because he believes that educating the whole child, and that includes critical and creative thinking through the arts. This is the first installment of allowing more students to be exposed to all facets of the arts, some of whom are experiencing music for the first time in their school matriculation.
Back Up Plan
If I we not meet our goal we will continue to fundraise for the software items for our class! If we do not meet the goal to purchase , then we will try to find a suitable replacement. We will continue to advocate for our needs to be met in every outlet that we can, so that students here can have access to quality, free, music education.
