With these funds I will...purchase a set of running shoes, socks, and club spirit shirts for the Whitney D.R.E.A.M. Runners 4 Life to help the girls continue practicing and reach their goal of running in the Zoom Through The Zoo Run on May 26, 2016. The running shoes will be kept by the club and will be cleaned and stored at the school for current and future DREAM runners, which will help all girls be prepared to run their best during every practice and race! We will order an array of sizes to fit the needs of all runners, and estimate that we will order shoes from women’s size 5-9. This purchase will ensure that the DREAM runners are set up to continue their amazing running growth from this year, and that the club can provide running opportunities for even more girls in the future. Our club shirts will help our runners show their Whitney pride as they complete the race.

The DREAM Runners 4 Life started training in the fall, and our spring training is underway! We’re an open and non-competitive group because we think that no girl should be left behind. In the fall, we focused on getting the girls used to running and pacing themselves as they ran. Now, during spring training, each girl is running, tracking, and journaling her own times to constantly become a better runner. One day a week, we have girl talk and reflect on how we can relate our school core values to the everyday experiences of our girls. The D.R.E.A.M Runners 4 Life also support other runners and groups in the community. At the St. Jude Marathon, our runners cheered along the course for several teachers from Whitney, members of Black Girls Run, and other St. Jude Runners, and met them at the finish line. The girls have been incredibly motivated by their progress this year, and their goal for the Zoom through the Zoo is to beat their personal best time for this distance and end the year with a new PR!
