Hands on Math: More Manipulatives

The Description

As a math teacher, many of the concepts I teach my students are abstract. It is my responsibility to make sure that these concepts become as concrete as possible. One of the best ways to ensure that this happens is having my students work with manipulatives. Using manipulatives gives students the ability to work out solutions on their desk and really build their own understanding. Once students are able to make these connections, they are able to retain the material so much easier. Because of these benefits it would be amazing for my students to have access to even more manipulatives. These are the different types of manipulatives I am fundraising for.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will use the funds raised to purchase as many different types of manipulatives as possible.

About the Creator

Our brand new school, KIPP:CONNECT, has just opened its doors and what a transformation has taken place right here in what used to be an abandoned hospital building! Our administrators have done a wonderful job of supplying our classrooms with furniture, materials and supplies. We have beautiful tables and chairs for our students. We have shelves for puzzles, art and science and beautiful bookshelves waiting to be filled. I am asking for help in order to purchase board books, big books and picture books for our classroom library. Our Blocks Center would be complete with a set of wooden blocks and multicultural people figures to use for pretend play. We would be able to create a Music Center with a supply of rhythm instruments and instruments from around the world. Our Science Center will be so inviting when we can purchase magnifying lenses for our preschoolers, water play toys, and science specimens. Preschoolers have such a love of learning, exploring and building friendships. Your contribution to our project, Fill The Shelves!, would make such a difference in our school and for our little learners!
