Creating a Love for Reading

The Description

With these funds I will provide a library for my students in class, as well as provide necessary class supplies for the whole-class and for those with special need. It is very important that I can start a class library so that no child has to go without a book. As a new teacher, I only have about 20 books from my personal library to contribute and those titles are mostly classics. It is also imperative that each student is not burdened by the need for so many supplies. The more supplies I can buy a class set of, the less the students have to buy themselves.

If I raise all of the funds, I plan to set aside $350 for the class library. With that money, I can buy about 3 books from half-price books or 1 book from Barnes and Noble. I would like to provide some popular young-adult texts and some popular non-fiction memoirs based on the titles I have been told by other teachers are very popular. Therefore, I will make my decision about which seller to use based on price and availability of these popular titles. There will be a lot of choice reading in the class, so a class set of novels is not necessary.

With the other $150, I plan to buy notebook paper, printer paper, notebooks, pencils, pens, hand sanitizer, paper clips, staples, a stapler, scissors, etc. in order to stock the class well for the students. I will also buy a few class sets of required materials for those in need to come to me for if their family cannot afford the materials. I plan to set up a teacher-discount account with office max to get even more supplies for the money.

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal, I will purchase any books or supplies I can with the funds I do receive.

Thank you to everyone who invested in this cause! I have not been able to get my hands on the check yet, because it was sent to the school and I have not been there to retrieve it. When I can get it, I will be sure to post what I am able to buy! Thanks again!

I know we didn't get the chance to know each other well, but everything I see you do convinces me what a special and amazing person you are. Your students are so lucky to have you. Good luck to you this year and beyond. God Bless!

About the Creator

I am a first year English teacher at Klein Cain High School in Klein ISD. As a brand new teacher, I do not have a very big classroom library for my students. In order to encourage reading, I would love to be able to provide my students with young adult literature, as well as some of the classic texts in my classroom.

I would also love to be able to provide my students with pens and pencils, as they are often forgotten or lost. In addition, some students cannot afford the class supplies and I would love to help them out with that.
