The Description
With these funds we, will be able to purchase a composition book for every student and teacher on campus. This year, we are focusing on critical conversations - discussions about the role of race, class, and privilege in current issues. Our hope is for students and teachers to learn from one another by sharing their perspectives. Since these types of conversations evoke several emotions, we want to encourage all KIPPsters to process their feelings in multiple ways. One way, is to write their thoughts in a journal throughout the discussion. At KIPP Houston High School, we are committed to supporting students’ identity development by providing opportunities for them to reflect on their own thoughts and feelings. We stress that idea that we are all individuals and we all are contributing members of society. Ongoing reflection with a focus on personal growth is critical in being able to meaningfully contribute to these discussions.
A journal like these composition books at staples would be a great tool for our entire KIPP team and family. They are $.50 apiece and 650 students plus 50 teachers/administrators comes out to a cost of $350.
Back Up Plan
We will purchase as many composition books as we can with the raised funds.
