The Description

With these funds I will...purchase two Safco Alphabetter standing desks and two Safco Alphabetter stools.

As students get older, they are often given less free time throughout the school day. This may result in students who are sitting still for a majority of the day. Studies have shown that students who are able to move more learn more. Standing desks are one way to help accomplish this during my 90 minute 7th grade math classes. With these desks, students are able to stand,  stand and swing their foot, or sit while swinging their foot. All of this can happen during class instruction without distracting other students or the teacher. Students will have the ability to move when needed.

My classes were fortunate enough to see this in action during the end of the 2015/2016 school year. We received two desks and stools from our generous PTO and students rotated using the desks. Each student was asked to write what they thought of the new desks after their turn. The overwhelming opinions were that these desks were great! They gave students the freedom to move when they needed to without having to ask permission. Students stated they were more focused and were less likely to let their minds wander. Students all agreed that two desks were not enough and that they wanted more access to the standing desks. With the help of our generous South Arbor PTO and parents, I have been able to purchase additional desks this summer, but more would better serve the needs of my students.
