The Description

Bache-Martin has made a commitment to meet all academic and social-emotional needs of our students.  One the ways that we plan on achieving this is through Morning Meeting in each classroom.

Morning Meeting consists of a daily greeting, announcements, sharing, and fun.  It provides a framework for teachers to elicit conversations around social-emotional needs in the classroom.  This can vary from kindness, inclusivity, empathy, safety, perseverance, etc.  We use games and videos to supplement these activities, but my goal is to incorporate read alouds into this block of the day.

According to "Using Read Alouds in Today’s Classrooms: Read alouds benefit children of all ages and in all subjects" by Reba M. Wadsworth, Read alouds give teachers a wonderful opportunity to directly scaffold learning for all students who lack the background for deep understanding of topics before we move them into more complex subject matter.

I have gathered a diverse list of read aloud titles to be used in our Morning Meeting discussions. I am hoping to share them with other classes and build a Morning Meeting "Lending Library" for teachers in our school.

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal I will purchase as many books as I possibly can and then put together a "wish list" of books for other possible fundraisers throughout the year.
