The Description

With these funds I will purchase a curriculum to teach real-world social skills to students in my special education classroom. The package also includes a game that will reinforce these skills. The curriculum will give me posters, lessons, read-alouds, and activities to teach my students about basic social skills, including understanding feelings and unwritten rules, respect, accepting differences, compassion, honesty, responsibility, conflict resolution, and many others. As a teacher, it is easy to always focus on academics. However, I know that many of these skills are just as important. I think this curriculum will give my students skills that they need in the real world to be successful, as well as help them socially in their classrooms. My students deserve a high-quality curriculum to learn these skills.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase part of the combination package.  The game alone is $54.95 and the curriculum alone is $74.95.  Hopefully, I will have enough funds for one of the two. Pro-ed also has other inexpensive social skill activities that I could purchase.

About the Creator

I am a special education teacher at Wissahickon Charter School. I teach in a self-contained classroom and throughout the day I have students ranging from 2nd- 7th grade. I work each day to meet the needs of students through small group instruction and academic interventions. In my classroom, I strive daily to meet academic needs, but also provide social and behavior instruction. My classroom is individualized so that every student is getting what they need.
