Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

After completing Teach for America’s - 2018 Dallas-fort-worth Institute I will be responsible for my very own classroom! I can't wait to decorate and meet my students and their families. One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. It makes it infinitely more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome my students to a classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework. Thank you so much in advance for supporting me and my students at the beginning of this exciting journey.

Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my first group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide for the students of my very first classroom:

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

Fort Worth!

June 27, 2018

Hi ya’ll. As some of you know by now, about 3 weeks ago I moved to Dallas/FortWorth, Texas to join Teach for America, a program that trains up leaders to teach in schools where educational inequity is the highest. I am currently in the midst of my summer training to prepare me for the classroom of middle schoolers in Fort Worth, TX that I will be teaching this coming school year. As many of you know, the amount of time and money that goes into simply making sure the classroom is ready for students is a big feat. So we have been paired with a neat fundraising organization to help us newbie teachers get some support to prepare our classrooms for our future students. If you feel so inclined to join me in this journey as a teacher and believe in the exceptional ability of my future students as much as I do, then please consider donating to my classroom. The list of things that this money will go towards will range from paper & pencils to kleenex & cleaning supplies. The main point here is that every cent goes to the needs of my students in the classroom. Every student deserves to walk into a classroom knowing that everything they need to help them be a successful student is right there.

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and continue working in the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. Last summer I was in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my second year with Teach for America.
