Flexible Seating for Engagement

The Description

With these funds I will...purchase tables and chairs that will help my students be better engaged in their learning. This type of seating will also help students be able to better collaborate with their classmates. Students learn more from their peers than the teacher. This type of seating will also help students to take ownership of their own leaning, which will help them to have a more fulfilling classroom experience.

Flexible seating and different types of tables will give my students the opportunity to choose a place in the classroom that helps them be the most successful. Students love to be given choices because it promotes autonomy and helps them to take ownership of their learning. I think flexible seating and unique tables will promote student buy-in to enjoying learning and being more successful in the classroom.

I would need different types of chairs such as carpet circles, wobble stools and cushions, bean bag chairs, and ball chairs. A mixture of the chairs would be great.

I would need would be 10 tables total. 1 table for standing up to work because some students work better when standing, 3 short round tables for sitting on the floor, 3 flower tables for collaboration and group work, and 3 standard height round tables. I would need enough tables and chairs for 32 students.

Currently students sit at single desks which does not allow for choice in seating and single desks are hard to configure for student collaboration. I found this year that 2nd graders like choice and prefer to work in small groups with their peers versus facing the teacher in traditional rows.
