Through the past 2 years of teaching, IXL has revolutionized my classroom and my students' ability to work from home, taking full advantage of our 1:1 laptop:student ratio. Through IXL's constant repetition and explicit explanations of mistakes, particularly self-motivated students have had a resource that they can in effect use to reteach themselves lessons or even get ahead and explore mathematical concepts from future lessons or future grades. Last year saw higher students exploring 7th grade modules towards the end of the year, and for the first time in my teaching career, I had students move onto compacted 7th-8th grade math when they moved to junior high, putting them on the track not only for success in middle school but also on a straight line towards getting into college. IXL doesn't just help push higher students, but also gives me a tool to help remediate and level instruction for lower students that need rote practice of foundational concepts. With IXL, students truly are given a chance to succeed and at a Title I school those chances are hard to come by.
