The Description
With these funds I will organize a Classroom Library system for each English class (4) for students to easily identify books by reading level and genre as well as incorporate a check in and check out book system that enables the teacher or parent volunteer to easily track the books a student has read. Students earn reading rewards monthly and having an electronic School Library system will definitely REV UP our Reading. I will use the Booksource app to track check-in and check-out of books, but storage and identification of books is most needed. Reading is a fundamental skill necessary for success in each school lesson. Reading can open worlds of imagination and opportunity to explore the universe. Students in low-income neighborhoods usually have minimal access to books. Each year our parent organization hosts 2 Scholastic Book Fairs and use the funds raised to buy books to add to the classroom libraries for student access and to give books to students to read over the summer to close the learning gap. We need book baskets to store the books, labels to mark the baskets, book tape to identify the genres and reading levels, cardstock to make personalized library cards for each student (400). Dollar Tree's bargain pricing will make this project cost effective: 80 baskets per grade (4) $320, 10 rolls book tape per grade(4) $40, 80 labels per grade (4) $40, and 4 colors of cardstock $32 for a total of $432.
