Giving the Next Generation a Voice through Writing

$1,006
$761 goal

The Description
This year I am not just teaching writing, I am starting a publishing company sustained entirely by students. All donations will help me to create an inspiring, engaging, and professional writing environment for them. This will cultivate an air of authenticity, which will demand that they take ownership of their work and push themselves to create beautiful and high-quality work.
With these funds I will...
- Start an "inspiration station" with models of strong writing from poems, graphic novels, articles, and songs, to essays and novels. This will provide frequent access to resources for students. This will include: shelves for texts ($100), purchasing books and subscriptions to newspapers and magazines ($200), a couch for a quiet reading and reflection space ($229 https://www.wayfair.com/Varick-Gallery-Ferris-Sleeper-Sofa-LGLY3151.html)
- Purchase supplies for writing workshops and organizing materials: Magazine holders for paper collection and distribution (2 per class period, $80), highlighters ($20), post-it notes ($20), bins ($50).
Back Up Plan
If we do not reach our goal I will purchase...
I will prioritize purchasing books as I firmly believe that to become a great writer, you need to have models of what strong writing looks like. If I have remaining funds afterwards, I will purchase supplies for writing workshops and organization materials.
