Field Trips for the Busy Bears

The Description

These funds will allow me to take my Busy Bears on field trips where they can explore and experience the world around them.  We are fortunate to have great resources near us, but these resources are underutilized because of the cost of transporting students.  Every time we need to take a bus, we must have $30 to pay for transportation.  This $300 will pay for 10 field trips.  More money means more field trips!

I have secured funding for a class membership allowing unlimited admission to SciPort Discovery Center, an awesome science museum in our city.  I've worked with their staff in making plans for monthly visits so the Busy Bears can be part of hands on science activities at their level and geared toward their interests.  Each month, my students will be able to take part in at least two activities taught by SciPort scientists and be able to enjoy some time for free exploration.

I've also made plans with the staff at Red River Wildlife Refuge to work with the Busy Bears in creating a forest kindergarten at their facility where my students can learn important reading and math skills through nature.  Observation and data collection at RRWR will help the Busy Bears in understanding how their learning is part of the real world.

Norton Art Gallery is another local resource the Busy Bears are missing out on.  The docents at Norton are incredible at taking the Busy Bears through the gallery and sharing paintings and sculptures that extend our studies.  They have a vast collection that will allow my students to make great art a regular part of our classroom lessons.

There so many other great places where the Busy Bears can learn in our community...if only we had bus fare!

Research shows that field trips that broaden a child's world increase their academic success.  Please help the Busy Bears get on the road to success!

Back Up Plan

We will travel on fewer field trips.  Unfortunately, when it comes to field trips and learning, less is not more!
