The Description

Not your typical classroom experience.  Students in Room 42 are active participants in every subject, but especially during our Engineer and Design time of the day!  My classroom is a 360 degree classroom where no wall is the front of the room.  Students move around constantly, changing partners, changing groups, and changing the direction of the front of the classroom depending upon the learning goal. Students respond to topics by writing on home made whiteboard tables that are slowly deteriorating.

As learning continues to change, my classroom continues to morph into an environment that encourages the best learning experience.  My constant search for better classroom management and learning has brought me to lean on those of you that can make this student centered classroom a reality.

I am looking to purchase 25 whiteboard student tables and 25 chairs on rollers with the hopes that I can raise enough for all 30 of my students.  The model that I am look at will transform the teaching experience for both the students and myself. Active learning will move into the 21st Century idea of collaboration and team outcomes.

The website that I found is Worthington Direct.   Each set which includes a student table on rollers and chair costs $310.00. The total cost would be $9,300 not including tax and shipping.

I realize this is a large request, however I see it as an investment in a successful inner city classroom which will produce students who will be on the competitive edge with their neighboring upper class peers.

Looking forward to a class in motion while learning.

Back Up Plan

Never give up!  That is the approach I took when I applied for several grants to become the only classroom in my inner city school to have a one to one ratio of Ipads to students.

If I do not meet my goal through PledgeCents, I will purchase as many tables and chairs that I can and slowly, with determination, will build this 360 degree classroom.  I will continue to apply for various grants as I did for the Ipads.  My determination to succeed will take my students and I to the 360 degree classroom and one step closer to being equally competitive with our surrounding upper class districts that have these opportunities through the wealthy donors in their own communities.

Never give up!

Thank you to all of the donors that generously gave to our cause.  We just received the check today. Although we did not meet our goal, we will continue to pursue this 21st Century classroom.  We have not yet spent the donations yet but will update as soon as we make a purchase.

About the Creator

I teach a technologically innovative 4th grade class at Buford Elementary School in Lennox, CA. I have worked very hard to attain a one to one ratio of Ipads to students. This environment lends itself to student inquiry and project based learning. I have many other hands on tools such as microscopes, ecosystem kits, magnetism and electricity kits are just to name a few. We are an active classroom constantly in motion as we learn.
