Play to Learn

The Description
Play isn't just the playground or dramatic play. Play can also be activities and tasks that use "toys" to focus on content. Using these toys in our content areas helps the students gain knowledge, become problem solvers, learn to work cooperatively and develop their imagination! The truth is, the students of today's world do not "play" as we used to. Technology, though useful, is often taking the place of some major developmental milestones usually reached through play. My solution? Purchase educational toys to help my low socio-economic students play to learn. For example, we can use Lakeshore's Design Builders to sort, count, build and create. We can use their Gear Builders to count, add and subtract. We can use the Following Directions Building Sets to think critically and creatively.
By funding this project you can help give these kids the educational toys needed to encourage hands-on, critical and creative thinking and learning.
With these funds I will purchase the following:
Lakeshore - Design Builders: $49.99
Lakeshore - Gear Builders: $39.99
Lakeshore - Following Directions Building Sets: $70.99
Lakeshore - Jumbo Building Bricks - Starter Set: $39.99
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will purchase these items slowly over the course of this year and possibly the next, as my budget allows.
