The Description
I have the best students in the world!
These 8 young men and women have been working on preparing themselves for the Kansas State Career Development Conference and (fingers crossed!) the International Career Development Conference.
My students are spending time in class, after school, and on weekends to put the finishing touches on marketing and entrepreneurship campaigns to compete against students from around the state of Kansas. Of course, they are also juggling work and athletic schedules, academics, and family responsibilities. Their hard work and dedication is why I get up and come to work every day.
I want to give these students the opportunity to compete at the state and international level, but finances are a large obstacle. We are trying traditional fundraisers, like restaurant nights, doughnut sales, and other corporate partnerships, but costs are adding up. Any donations will be used to offset the costs of registration, lodging, meals, and transportation.
Thank you for your support - any amount will help me help my students achieve their goals!
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will use whatever funds were raised to offset the costs and consider alternative fundraisers.
Fundraiser Updates (9)
Doughnuts!
April 7, 2017
We sold Krispy Kreme doughnuts for a fundraiser today. We sold 260 doughnuts - about 180 pre-sold and the remainder before 7:10. We probably could have sold 300!
Plane Tickets Purchased!
April 4, 2017
We received our approval from the Board of Education tonight! After a quick dinner, Tyler and I came back and ordered our plane tickets. It's official now!
Abby and I were talking before the Board of Education meeting began tonight and she told us this will be her first time on a plane. It makes my heart so full to know that we can provide our students with these awesome opportunities. We still have some time to raise funds. If you feel called to donate, please know that we are appreciative of any amount and it *all* goes to paying expenses for students!
Thank you!

Blazers, Doughnuts, and Brochures...oh my!
March 29, 2017
Our blazers arrived in the mail yesterday and look very sharp on Abby and Sandra!
We are also in the middle of a Krispy Kreme doughnut fundraiser - we are pre-selling doughnuts as one of our fundraisers to help cover expenses.
Abby and Sandra have also been working hard on making improvements to their project. This week, they have been working on a brochure with gender and relationship violence resources. They are going to take their lunch period on Thursday to work with me. They really are dedicated to creating useful resources for the students and families at Turner High School!
We are really excited that our PledgeCents page has been selected to have the credit card fees waived on donations between now and Friday at midnight. This means that more money will be coming directly to our classroom - people donating have the option to cover the 3% fee or the fee will be applied when the fundraiser is over.
Thanks!
Blazers!

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who has supported THS DECA to this point! Your donations mean so much to our chapter! If I haven't already, I will be contacting everyone to send them a thank you card and photo of the chapter. Here's a sneak peak!
These kids are really special!
Headed to Anaheim!

We got back from our state competition yesterday and we had 2 students qualify for the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, CA! We are so excited and can't wait to start planning the trip! Here's a picture of the entire group at the Grand Awards ceremony!

DECA Project Update!
February 15, 2017
I am so excited because our projects are so close to being done!
- Abby and Sandra are working on a project to increase awareness of gender and relationship violence and the resources available. They have done surveys and interviews, hosted speakers, and created a poster campaign.
- Essence and Jade are working on a project to increase sales of women's apparel at the Nike Factory Outlet.
- Celeste and Kayla are working on a project to increase sales at Forever 21.
- Tanner has created a new product that will help wireless earbud users.
- Davion isn't working on a project, but he will be competing in a Personal Financial Literacy role play at state.
I'm really proud of these students and can't wait to accompany them to the State Career Development Conference!

Abby and Sandra's Assembly!
February 11, 2017
Abby and Sandra are competing in Creative Marketing Project. For this project, they had to identify a problem, research it, and make recommendations. Abby and Sandra began researching gender and relationship violence at high schools and conducted a survey of the juniors and seniors at THS. From their research, they decided to invite Curt and Christie Brungardt, co-founders of Jana's Campaign, to speak to the junior and senior classes. Jana's Campaign focuses on providing preventative education about gender and relationship violence to middle and high school students.
Here are two pictures from the event! You can see Dr. Penrose (our principal), Curt, Abby, Sandra, and Christie. You can also see a photo during the assembly.
Thank you for your support to this point! We appreciate it!
